Dear Frank B. Ferret
My ferret Fergie has been dragging her hind legs for the past month, and the problem is getting worse. I read your column about wheelchair-like carts for dogs. Do they make a tiny version for ferrets that no longer can use their back legs?
Frank Responds
No – and you probably won’t need a cart, because Fergie’s hind legs are unlikely to be the problem.
When we ferrets don’t feel good – for whatever reason – we drag our back legs.
If we were dogs or cats, you’d suspect our spinal cords were damaged. But we’re ferrets, unique creatures with unique problems.
Take Fergie to her veterinarian, who can diagnose the underlying disease. Once it’s treated, Fergie will walk on all fours again.
