My cat has an extra flap at the base of each ear. Is this normal?

Yes, all cats have it. The flap adjacent to the ear margin forms a pocket, called the marginal ear pouch. It’s thought to amplify sound, which may be why we cats can detect even the tiniest mouse rustling through the leaves.
