Dear Christopher Cat
Why does my one-year-old male tabby constantly rub his body against my legs?
Christopher Responds
I don’t know why your cat behaves that way, but I can tell you why I rub up against my mom’s legs.
Simply put, I love her, and I want her to know it. I’m showing affection when I glide by her and “pet” her with my body.
And if my rubbing up against her prompts her to lean down and pet me, well that’s a nice side effect.
We cats have scent glands on our cheeks, so I often rub my face against her to mark her as my own property. Only the unluckiest humans travel around without the subtle scent of a loving cat on them.
The next time your cat rubs up against you, lean down and pet him – and tell him you love him too.
